Long Range by CJ Box
Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett joins the rescue a victim of a grizzly bear attack. Something seems off about the survivor’s story, but before Joe can investigate, he is pulled away to another crime. Someone has taken a shot at a local judge, but missed and hit his wife. The shot came from an amazingly long distance, and Joe is counted on for his expertise with long range guns and shooters.
Joe’s friend, falconer Nate Romanowski, falls under suspicion. He has the skills and there is no love lost between Nate and the law enforcement community. But Nate now has a wife and baby, and has no reason to kill the judge. Joe races to discover the real shooter and solve the problem with the grizzly encounter.
Awe inspiring setting, masterful plot, and characters that leap off the page. Box never fails to engage and entertain.
