Katelyn Hamm, a fellow game warden of Joe Pickett, told him
someone was chasing down elk and mule deer with a drone, and some of the
animals were killed or wounded. The drone belongs to the father of Joe’s
daughter Lucy’s boyfriend, who lives in a highly guarded compound with a couple
of thugs who seem very out of place in the Wyoming wilderness.
When the game wardens attempt to cite the offender, they
both get threatening visits from the FBI. Meanwhile, a gang of assassins has
killed a couple and are setting up on Joe’s territory. Not only do they plan on
killing their target, but they leave no witnesses. Joe doesn’t like to be
warned off a case, and he follows his leads to the end even if it puts his
career and life in jeopardy. Another great book in this exciting, long-running
series.
